Hundreds of students participated in the annual District 58 Reading Games on Saturday, Feb. 21 at O'Neill Middle School. Seventy-eight teams representing 15 schools took part in this spirited, friendly competition that celebrates literacy, teamwork, and a shared love of reading.

Over 450 students in grades 3-8 prepared for the event by reading up to nine books each. Working collaboratively in teams, students demonstrated their comprehension, recall, and analytical thinking as they answered detailed questions about this year’s selected books.

The Reading Games introduces students to a broad range of genres, authors, series, and topics they may not otherwise select for themselves.  Beyond strengthening reading skills, the program creates opportunities for students to collaborate, exchange ideas, and bond over great books.

The Reading Games exposes kids to different genres, series, authors, or topics that they may not select fro themselves. Plus, it facilitates friends coming together to discuss books while working as a team. Visit the District 58 Reading Games website and Results to learn more. View Reading Games 2026 photo gallery.
