District 58 Hosts Annual Legislative Breakfast

District 58 Legislative Breakfast with panel of elected officials
Downers Grove Grade School District 58’s Board of Education Legislative Committee hosted its annual Legislative Breakfast on Friday, February 20, at Herrick Middle School. The event brought together six elected officials, one congressional press secretary, and nearly 100 local community and school district leaders for a morning of conversation and collaboration.

The event opened with a networking reception and light refreshments, accompanied by a performance from the Herrick Chamber Strings Orchestra. Board of Education members Melissa Ellis and Katie Thomas formally welcomed attendees, and Student Council leaders from Herrick and O’Neill Middle Schools introduced the participating legislators.

During a moderated panel, elected officials outlined their top priorities for K–12 education funding this legislative session and discussed approaches to ensure districts have the resources needed to deliver equitable, high-quality instruction. Officials then participated in small-group discussions with attendees, engaging in candid conversations about education issues and funding at the local, state and federal levels.
