On November 11, students and staff across District 58 came together to honor our nation’s veterans. Through assemblies, songs, artwork, and classroom activities, students reflected on the bravery and sacrifices of those who have served our country.
For example, at Fairmount School, students had the special opportunity to meet Mr. Jacob Pollack, a longtime Downers Grove resident who served in Europe during World War II. Mr. Pollack, who turns 100 next week, shared his experiences and was celebrated for both his service and milestone birthday.
Students also learned about Fred Lester, the Medal of Honor recipient for whom Lester School is named, recognizing his courage and ultimate sacrifice in World War II.
Through various stories and tributes, our students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of gratitude, civic responsibility, and honoring those who protect our freedoms. District 58 extends heartfelt thanks to all veterans for their service and dedication.
