The District 58 Board of Education will hold a meeting on Monday, May 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Downers Grove Village Hall. The public may also view the meeting remotely, via the Village of Downers Grove’s YouTube page. After the meeting has concluded, the Village will process the video and send it to District 58 to be posted on the District’s YouTube channel.
The meeting will be divided into three parts and designated as three separate meetings as follows:
The Reorganization Meeting set at 6:30 p.m. will include the following topics, among others:
- Swearing in of incumbent board members Kirat Doshi, Emily Hanus and Steven Olczyk who ran unopposed for re-election to the Board on April 4
- Election of board president and vice-president and appointment of the board secretary with the corresponding stipend
- Establishment of regular meeting dates, times and locations
- Establishment of Board committee appointments, and Board representatives and alternates to the SASED Board of Directors and Governing Board
The Regular Business Meeting set at 6:45 p.m. will include the following topics, among others:
- A Lester School presentation
- Reports on the Board’s Policy Committee meeting on April 18, 2023 and Financial Advisory Committee meeting on April 24, 2023
- A recommendation to approve the District’s five-year financial plan
- Recommendations to approve the honorable dismissal of a part-time educational support staff member
- A recommendation to approve an Owner’s Representative to oversee facility construction and improvement projects
- A recommendation to purchase additional Chromebooks for student use
- A recommendation to approve a 10-year Life Safety survey for Henry Puffer School as required by state statute
- A recommendation to approve an agreement with the Kingsley PTA for a donation to the school to help fund an inclusive playground
- A recommendation to designate some older equipment as surplus so that it can be sold
- Recommendations to approve the purchase and installation of playground equipment for Henry Puffer School
- A recommendation to approve a geotechnical plan in preparation for facility construction
A Workshop Meeting, set at 7:45 p.m., will include the following:
- Training for board members and administrators on facilitating Strategic Planning sessions that will take place on May 15 and May 16

How to make a public comment during the meeting:
The Board encourages public comment from the community. There will be an opportunity for in-person visitors to make a public comment at each of the three designated meetings on May 8. Additionally, members of the public may communicate with the Board at any time by emailing boe@dg58.org.
