Board Preview: Aug. 9 Regular Meeting

The District 58 Board of Education will hold a Regular Meeting on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021 at Downers Grove Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave. The meeting will begin in closed session at 6 p.m. The public portion of the meeting is expected to start at approximately 7 p.m. Under Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s guidelines for Phase 5, there will no longer be a limit to the number of guests who are permitted to attend the meeting in person. Under current health department guidelines, attendees are required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. The public may also view the meeting remotely, via the Village of Downers Grove’s YouTube page. After the meeting has concluded, this live stream will be saved on District 58’s YouTube channel and shared on the District 58 website.

The meeting agenda covers many topics, including:

  • A Superintendent’s Report that will preview the District’s back-to-school plan. No action or discussion is expected on this topic. The final plan will be discussed at the Special Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 18.
  • A Business Report that will review the tentative budget and the below recommendations regarding the Longfellow Center resolution, administrative sublease, and ASC renovation bid.
  • A recommendation to approve an amended school calendar for 2021-22. If approved, the amended calendar will reflect the following changes:
    • The DuPage County Teacher Institute Day will be moved from Feb. 25 to March 4, 2022. 
    • The State recently moved Election Day from March 15 to June 28, 2022. As such, March 15 will become a student attendance day, and the last day of school will be changed from June 7 to June 6, 2022.
  • A recommendation to approve the 2021-22 tentative budget and establish Sept. 13 as the date for a budget public hearing.
  • A recommendation to approve a resolution to sell the Longfellow property to the highest qualified bidder, at a minimum sale price to be set by the Board of Education.
  • A recommendation to sublease 5,384 square feet of furnished administrative office space at 2300 Warrenville Road for $16/square foot with a 2% annual increase. The proposed lease is for seven years, offers three early out provisions, and is a gross/all-inclusive lease.
  • A recommendation to award the ASC renovation bid to Construction Inc. for a total cost of $364,000.
  • A recommendation to designate a Sea Ray floor machine and a Service Master floor machine as surplus equipment and be placed on a public auction site.
  • A recommendation to award the 2021-22 snow removal bid with two alternates to DGO Premium Services.
