District 58 invites community to take annual communication survey

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 invites all community members to complete its annual Communication Satisfaction and Preferences Survey (para Español: Encuesta de Satisfacción y Preferencias de Comunicación del Distrito 58) now through Sunday, June 6. Please take the survey at . It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, and the District will use survey feedback to guide its communication improvement efforts.

Through this survey, District 58 seeks to measure the community’s satisfaction with communications, as well as understand the community’s communication preferences. This survey was developed through the District’s Strategic Plan Goal 2: Connecting the Community. This goal aims to cultivate and strengthen community relationships by focusing on communication, collaboration and consistency.

This is the third consecutive year District 58 has offered this survey. District 58 analyzes the survey results internally, as well as with the District Leadership Team, which is a group comprising School Board members, administrators, staff members, parents and community members who meet quarterly to review the District’s progress toward achieving its Strategic Plan goals.

Visit www.dg58.org/surveys to view past survey results or click here to view the 2020 survey presentation. The District has used feedback from this survey to drive tangible improvements with its communications. For example, in the 2019 and 2020 surveys:

  • Survey-takers showed a preference for school/principal newsletters and emails. District 58 is working with principals to enhance school newsletter content and make school communications (quantity and quality of messages) more consistent districtwide.
  • Survey-takers indicated that they most frequently visit the District website to view calendar, school and contact information. District 58 is working to keep these website areas more up-to-date and to establish improved school website expectations.
  • Survey-takers said they prefer to receive Communicate 58 newsletter mid-week in the morning. District 58 will continue to publish Communicate 58 on Wednesdays and aims to send it in the morning.
  • Some open-ended comments, particularly in 2020, said that some communications were wordy and that the District used too many communication channels. District 58 is working to streamline its communications. However, the District also realizes that the most recent communication survey took place during last spring, when District 58 was fully remote and adapting to the communication challenges this created.
