Dear Families,
Here are some instructions about returning District-issued iPads, Chromebooks and accessories at the end of the year. Here are specific details and instructions for each grade level:
Grades K-6
Students in grades K-6 will return their District-issued iPads and iPad accessories to school on Tuesday, May 20.
Please ensure your child turns in his or her iPad and iPad case on time. In addition, students in grades 1 and 6 must also return their charger (block and cable). Please complete the following:
- Back up data (optional). While returning students in grades K, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will likely receive the same iPad if it is in good condition, it is always a good idea to back up all essential content before turning it in. While this is optional, it is the only way to save the work your child has produced on his or her device. Students currently in Grades 1 and 6 will receive a new device and must back up any essential content. Need help? Check out these helpful resources:
- Charge your iPad completely. IPads should always be kept in District-issued iPad cases; please ensure that the iPad is returned in the case.
- Submit your child’s iPad and iPad case to his or her classroom teacher.
- Students in first grade and sixth grade will turn in their iPad charging block and cable, as they will receive a different device next school year
- Students in kindergarten, second grade, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade will keep their iPad chargers at home. These students will have the same device next school year, so they can keep this charger at home and have it available for use in September. There will be a replacement fee for any chargers that are lost or misplaced.
Grade 7
Students in grade 7 who are already registered for next school year may keep their District-issued Chromebooks over the summer. Students in grade 7 who have not registered and/or will not be returning to District 58 next school year should turn in their Chromebooks and chargers via the same schedule as the eighth graders below.
Grade 8
Students in grade 8 should return their District-issued Chromebooks via the following schedule:
- O’Neill: Eighth period class on Tuesday, May 20
- Herrick: Student Support Period on Wednesday, May 21
For Chromebooks, backing up content is not necessary. However, eighth-grade students and other students leaving the District may be interested in preserving some of their content, as they will lose access to their District 58 accounts over the summer. Here is some information on how to transfer Google Data to a personal account.
Summer School students
Students participating in Summer School should turn in their devices following the procedures listed above. The District will make devices available during summer school.
