All visitors must check in with the office when entering the building.

Dropping Off and Picking Up Children:

Children should arrive for school between 8:05 and 8:15 a.m.  Please be aware that supervision of students does not begin until 8:05 a.m. in the morning. We again supervise at dismissal from 2:00-2:10 p.m. (Mondays) & 3:00 – 3:10 p.m.(Tuesdays-Fridays) after school.  We regret to inform you that we are not able to supervise any children outside of these times. If you need before/after school daycare, please consider the Champions Program or any of the local daycare facilities such as the YMCA, Kindercare, etc.

Please follow the map below when you are dropping off or picking up your children. Children should enter and exit on the passenger side of the vehicle closest to the curb for safety purposes. Please do not get out of your vehicle to walk around your car to let out your child – this creates a disruption to the flow of traffic in the drop off lane as well as an adult safety concern.

Students are dismissed at 3:00 pm.  Students generally exit out the door closest to their classroom.

Attendance:

If a student will not be in school, please contact the school office prior to 8:15 am to notify us of the child’s absence.  You may leave a message on the school answering machine outside of normal business hours. Please be aware that our secretaries will attempt to contact parents/guardians if no call is made to ensure the safety of our students. All requests for homework should be made as early in the day as possible – no homework requests will be granted after 11:30 am.  Homework may be picked up in the office at the end of the day.

Vacation:

If a student will be missing school due to a vacation, a parent or guardian needs to contact the office or send a note with the dates your child will be absent to the classroom teacher.

Remember during testing weeks, it is very important that your child be present at school.

Change of Information:

Please notify the Lester School office as soon as possible with any changes of address, phone numbers, employment, or emergency contacts, so our records can be kept up to date.

Dropping Off Items:

When dropping off items for students during school hours (such as  lunches, backpacks, library books, glasses, tennis shoes, etc.), please label the item with the name of your child and notify the office that you have left it on the table by the front door.

REMINDER: NO LUNCH DELIVERIES FROM OUTSIDE RESTAURANTS/DELIVERY COMPANIES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR LESTER STUDENTS.  Thank you for your help with this matter.

Teacher Communication:

At times during the course of the school year, you may need to contact your child’s teacher to ask a question or get clarification. We are always happy to assist you in providing any information you may need!  You can contact us via a written note, a phone call, or by email. Please be aware that the expectation is that our teachers are spending their time teaching your children during the course of the school day. In addition, they may be involved in before and/or after school meetings depending upon their schedule. Please do our staff the courtesy of allowing 24 hours for a response.

Attire:

Please keep in mind that Lester School is not air conditioned. Students should dress accordingly, yet appropriately, during all seasons.  Loose cotton clothing is recommended. For safety reasons, gym shoes or other sturdy shoes are the best for school. Remember that the children do go outside to play on the blacktop or playground twice a day and should be dressed for the weather.

Emergency Closings:

There may be times, in inclement weather or for other reasons, that our school is closed.  Parents can find out this information by listening to: WBBM 780 AM or WGN 720 AM or on television: ABC, NBC, CBS, WGN, FOX, and CLTV all broadcast school closings.  Closing information can also be found online at www.EmergencyClosings.com or the district website www.dg58.org or by calling the district’s answering machine at 630-719-5800.  Parents may be also be notified via School Messenger. Please be sure to have an alternate place for your child to stay in the event that school is cancelled or needs to be closed early.

Medication:

Medication must be brought to school by a parent or guardian.  In addition, a doctor’s note is needed in order for us to legally dispense any medication or prescription, including over-the-counter medications like Tylenol, along with a written note by the parent/guardian.
