This Herrick group of 7th and 8th graders love math and it shows. The Herrick students in advanced math classes placed Second among 60 middle schools in the recent Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Contest.
Area veterans will have some poppies to remember this Memorial Day and for a long time after that thanks to Herrick students in Elizabeth Lukes' art class.
Downers Grove Grade School District 58 congratulates its seven staff members who will retire at the end of the current school year. “Retirement celebrations are always a bittersweet moment,” said Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell. “While it is sad to lose such talent in our District, we are very excited for the retirees to begin their next chapter.”
Beth Kamano, reading specialist at Pierce Downer, was named 2023 Educator of the Year by the Downers Grove Elementary Education Association (DGEEA).
Dr. Russell thanks the community for their efforts in supporting the school district during Strategic Planning sessions and the next steps in the process to create long-range plans and improvement goals for the school district.

Twenty-three staff members were honored at the District 58 Foundation’s Distinguished Service Awards on Monday, May 15. Two were chosen as winners but as one nominator said, “It must be very tough to pick the winners as everyone is so deserving.”

The District 58 Board of Education will hold a meeting on Monday, May 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Downers Grove Village Hall. The meeting will be designated as three separate meetings: a Reorganization Meeting at 6:30 p.m., a Regular Business meeting at 6:45 p.m. and a Workshop Meeting at 7:45 p.m. for training related to strategic planning.
Congratulations to the Herrick and O'Neill Eighth Grade Select 58 honorees. The District 58 Education Foundation honored 54 Eighth Graders for their service to their school and community at the Select 58 Awards May 3.
