Kingsley School Community Goes Blue for Brenna !

Brenna Quirin, a Kingsley School second grader, was recently diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma, an aggressive but curable form of Lymphoma. The community has rallied for her by tying ribbons of her favorite color, light blue, around what seems like the entire south side of Downers Grove. The Kingsley School Student Council has declared Friday's Blue for Brenna days for the rest of this school year  and a Team Brenna binder sits in the school office collecting notes of encouragement and support for Brenna.

An account has been set up at the Community Bank of Downers Grove to help the family with expenses. Checks can be made out to Fight Brenna Fight and you can just walk into the bank with a donation. Also, you can go to http://humantribeproject.com/tribes/fight-brenna-fight if you would like to make a donation or purchase a necklace in which part of the proceeds will go to Brenna's family.

The Quirin's would like to thank the community for their support with all the ribbons, meals, house cleaning, yard cleaning, babysitting the other children, and gifts for Brenna to keep her spirits up.

 New School Hours for 2012-2013

  • District 58's Board of Education gave the nod April 9 to a plan by staff to increase the length of the school day by 20 minutes for the 2012-13 year. The discussion about the increase in instructional time began last summer, and during the 2011-12 year staff at the District and building level reviewed a variety of potential plans and scenarios. The plan presented to the Board of Education on April 9 calls for the Kingsley student day to be structured as follows:
  • Grades 1-6
  • 8:20: Bell to enter school
  • 8:25 to 11:40 a.m.
  • 11:40 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. (student lunch/recess)
  • 12:20 to 2:55
  • Kindergarten
  • 8:20: AM kindergarten students enter school with teacher
  • 8:25 to 11:05 a.m.
  • 12:10: PM kindergarten students enter school with teacher
  • 12:15 to 2:55 p.m.
