Student Activities/Clubs
Student Council
Belle Aire Student Council has an executive board comprised of fifth and sixth graders elected by students for a one-year term. Each classroom, first through sixth grades, elects two representatives to attend monthly meetings and serve as the liaison between Student Council and the student body. They also lead the daily Pledge of Allegiance on a rotating basis.
Student Council plans and executes activities to boost school spirit, encourage community involvement, and promote a social atmosphere at Belle Aire. Students participate in spirit days and fund raisers throughout the school year. The Penny Harvest raises money for needy families and local food pantries. Soup for Super Bowl contributes non-perishable food items to food pantries. Fun contests and raffles add a festive atmosphere to the lunchroom and earn money for student council events and charity. The annual roller skating party promotes physical activity and builds a sense of community outside school walls.
Betsy Matson and Joan Mommsen serve as faculty advisors.
Care and Share Club
Belle Aire School is dedicated to helping make a better world. The Care and Share Club is a volunteer group of 4th through 6th graders who work together to help others in their community and around the world. These students take part in hands on service projects, as well as making items to give to local organizations. The Care and Share Club also inspires the entire school to take part in collections for various organizations who take donations for those they help. Belle Aire Students care!
Beginning Band: Mackenzie Martin
Beginning band is an introduction to band instruments and band ensemble playing open to all students in grade 5. Students do not need to have any prior musical training to participate in the beginning program. Students will receive small group instruction once a week during the school day to learn fundamentals of tone production, musical notation, and care of their instruments. Students are responsible for making up any class work that is missed due to band lessons. In addition to lessons in school, students in the beginning program participate in the after school full band rehearsal for all north side elementary schools once a week at Herrick Middle School. After school full band meets in the band room (rm. 128) on Mondays from 3:30-4:30pm. Mrs. Kaminski is the director of this group. Here the students receive large ensemble training and prepare as a full band for two evening concerts (winter and spring). Attendance at rehearsals, lessons, and concerts is required for the success of the individual as well as the group.
