  • New Lester assistant principal appointed

    Adam Ubben has been appointed the new assistant principal at Lester School. Ubben holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in educational leadership from National Lewis University, and has served as an assistant principal in Plainfield District 202 for three years.   • Eighth-graders honored at annual Select 58 banquet

    May 8 marked a very special night for 58 eighth-graders in Downers Grove Grade School District 58 -- 29 from Herrick Middle School and 29 from O’Neill Middle School -- as they were honored at the annual Select 58 banquet for their citizenship and contributions to school and community.   • Wednesday, June 5 set as last day of school

    On Monday, May 6, the District 58 School Board voted to establish the last day of school as Wednesday, June 5. This was the last day that had been established earlier this spring. One emergency day was used April 18 as a result of the flooding that hit the area, but the district had scheduled more than the required number of student attendance days, so it is not necessary to make up the day.

  • Board swears in new member, elects officers

    During a special re-organizational meeting on May 6, the District 58 Board of Education swore in new member Jim Paul and elected Sallie Lupescu as president and John Cooper as vice president. Paul, a member of the district's Financial Advisory Committee, a CPA and a parent of two students at Belle Aire School, was elected in an uncontested race April 9. Board President Steve Funk did not seek a second term in office, and Lupescu thanked him during the re-organization meeting for his dedicated service.

  • D58 students chosen as winners in library’s bookmark contest

    A number of bookmarks designed by District 58 students were chosen as winners in the Downers Grove Public Library Junior Room 2013 annual bookmark contest. Winners were selected based on originality, artwork and theme. Click here for the list of winners from District 58!

  • Balanced budget expected for 2013-14

    The Board of Education got its first look April 22 at the tentative $60 million spending plan for 2013-14, which is anticipated to be in balance again for the year. “District 58 continues to spend responsibly while at the same time achieving excellent results for our students,” said District 58 Superintendent Kari Cremascoli. “Thanks to our conservative budgeting, proactive responses to economic conditions, and maintenance of fund balances, our financial position has remained solid despite continued cutbacks in state funding.” Click the headline for the full story.
