SQUIRREL and longitudinal reporting: Want to learn more?

The District will hold its Parent Tech Support and Parent Learning, Assessment and Reporting meeting series again this school year. Learn more about the SQUIRREL portal, 1:1 learning, standards-based learning and longitudinal reporting by attending one of the meetings below. Additional fall dates will be added soon.

All daytime meetings will take place at the Longfellow Center, 1435 Prairie Ave.
All evening meetings will take place at Herrick Middle School, 4435 Middaugh Ave.

Schools of 58 Parent Handbook available 
Please view the Schools of 58 Parent Handbook annually with your children. Print copies of the Schools of 58 Parent Handbook will be delivered next week in backpack mail to families who indicated a preference for a print copy in their child's school registration.

  • Sixth annual Lester Fun Run a fitness success

    Lester School students raced with their families and friends at the sixth annual “Running of the Leopards” 5K Fun Run and 1-Mile Kids Dash on Sept. 27. Along with promoting a healthy lifestyle, the community fundraising event had over 380 runners participating and generated more than $15,000 toward Lester PTA programs and activities.

  • Learn about Title 1 funding at parent meeting Oct. 5

    El Sierra, Henry Puffer, Highland, Indian Trail and Kingsley schools are designated as a Title 1 School. As a Title 1 School, we receive additional funds to remediate/enrich our students’ instruction. This meeting will inform parents of the programs and activities provided with Title 1 funds. Las escuelas de El Sierra, Henry Puffer, Highland, Indian Trail y Kingsley están designada como escuela Title 1, esta designación gubernamental permite que nuestra escuela reciba fondos adicionales para respaldar y enriquecer la instrucción de nuestros estudiantes.

  • Lockdown drill information for parents

    District 58’s top priority is the safety of our students and staff. To that end, each school conducts several safety drills throughout the school year. These safety drills include fire drills, tornado drills and lockdown drills, also known as shelter in place drills.

  • District earns 4 state-level communications awards

    The Illinois chapter of the National School Public Relations Association, or INSPRA, presented two Awards of Excellence and two Awards of Merit to Megan Hewitt, District 58 community relations coordinator, during its annual Communications Contest award ceremony on Friday, Sept. 18.

    During the September Board of Education meeting, the Board appointed Christopher Heppner to fill the Board member vacancy; held a public hearing on the 2015-16 budget and approved the budget; and more.

    Due to the positive responses we have received for attendance at our evening meetings, we have changed venues for our evening meetings to the Herrick Middle School cafeteria to accommodate additional attendees. Our afternoon meetings will stay at the Longfellow Center.

    O’Neill Middle School in Downers Grove Grade School District 58 announces Melissa Sawisch as its new assistant principal, effective Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Board of Education approved her appointment during the September Board of Education meeting.
