Herrick Student Support Staff


The student support staff at Herrick consists of a Speech Pathologist, a School Psychologist, a Social Worker and two Guidance Counselors. This group of professionals work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers and other organizations to meet the unique needs of your child.

Speech Pathologist - The role of the speech pathologist is to help students who need extra support in the areas articulation, language, fluency and/or voice in order to be successful within the educational setting. Her case load is made up of students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

School Psychologist - The role of the school psychologist is to work with children to identify their areas of strength and weakness so the Herrick staff can effectively support their needs. The testing that is done can determine if a student qualifies for special education.

Social Worker - The role of the social worker is to work with students with specific identified needs in the areas of social or emotional development. Her primary case load is made up of special education students who have an IEP.

Guidance Counselors - The role of the guidance counselor is to meet with all of the students to help with any academic, social, emotional and developmental difficulties they may be experiencing.

Counseling Services

Counseling services are provided through two primary interventions: individual counseling and group counseling,

Individual Counseling is a confidential relationship in which the counselor meets with students to help them resolve or cope constructively with their problems and developmental concerns. Problems may range from middle school adjustment issues and academic concerns to major personal/family crisis intervention.

Group Counseling is offered to students based on the needs of the students. Groups may be offered on the following topics.

Academic Imrpovement • Divorce/Single parent homes
Anger Management • Friendships problems
Family Concerns • Healthy Living • Alcohol/Drug issues • Death of a Loved One

The counselors also help coordinate the following activities

• Standardized testing • Crisis Response
• Community agency referrals • Sneak Preview
• 6th grade & new student orientation • Herrick Rewards
• Herrick parent web page maintenance • Peer Leaders
