DuPage County Health Department shares information regarding measles.

In light of the fact that seven school-age children have recently been diagnosed with measles in DuPage County, the DuPage County Health Department has issued a letter regarding the disease, including information on symptoms and reporting.

With school ending this week, the DCHD anticipates more intermingling of students in summer activities. Because cases are spread throughout the county and not concentrated in one location, the DCHD has requested that all parents, and those who will be working with children, become informed about disease recognition and reporting, the importance of prevention through vaccination, and how to assist in controlling and preventing the spread of measles in the community. The increase in measles diagnoses across the U.S. is due in large part to cases among under- or unvaccinated people from the U.S. and abroad.

After reading the DCHD letter, if you have questions or want to report a case of measles, please contact the DuPage County Health Department at (630) 682-7400, Ext. 7533. More information on measles and measles vaccination is available at: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/measles/default.htm.
