Each week, the Grove Children’s Preschool students at Indian Trail School head to the LRC, where the fifth-graders wait eagerly to meet up with their “reading buddies.”
The preschoolers make beelines for their buddies, and the LRC is abuzz with voices as they choose their books and settle in to read together. As the fifth-graders share the stories, the preschoolers listen intently, help turn pages, point to pictures, and ask questions.
Once they’ve had a chance to read several books together, the buddies head to the checkout desk to get books to take home, and it’s time to say goodbye until the following week.
The preschoolers and the fifth-graders very much look forward to their time together, and it’s a chance for the school’s youngest students to get even more one-on-one time with books, said their teachers.
