Downers Grove Grade School District 58 announces that eight O’Neill and Herrick middle school students won awards at the recent regional science fair in Aurora, Ill. In addition, two students will advance to the Illinois state science fair competition, which takes place at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale on May 2.

The Downers Grove District 58 Education Foundation announces its annual spring fundraiser concert: an evening with Poi Dog Pondering hosted by Classic Cinemas Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave. The show will take place Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

District 58’s family-favorite Fit Fair event will return to O’Neill Middle School, 635 59th St., on Thursday, March 26 from 6-8 p.m. The school will transform into a hub for healthy family activities: yoga, line dancing and hip hop demonstrations in the big gym; pilates and martial arts in the small gym; DDR and a heart challenge in the cafeteria; nutritious food samples and health screenings sprinkled among all three. Best yet, this fun event is free to all District 58 families!
The Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education unanimously approved the District’s proposal to offer an Optional Kindergarten Enrichment and Enhancement Program in the 2015-16 school year during the Board’s regular meeting Monday, March 9.
The Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education approved on March 9 the appointment of Michelle Rzepka as the new principal of Hillcrest School, effective July 1, 2015. Rzepka will replace Hillcrest Principal Paula Thomas, who retires in June.
The Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club awarded five O'Neill Middle School students in its annual Junior High Art Contest, including its top Best in Show and First Place prizes. The contest is open to all junior high students living within District 58 or District 66 boundaries, including students attending non-public schools.
