Four District 58 educators receive Outstanding Teacher Awards

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club honored four District 58 educators with an Outstanding Teacher Award during a special ceremony on Friday, Feb. 27. This award recognizes area teachers who demonstrate excellence in education. Congratulations recipients!

  • You're invited! Executive Functioning in Adolescents

    The Herrick PTA invites parents of sixth through eighth graders to a parent education night on executive function skills in adolescents. The event will take place Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Herrick Middle School. The featured speaker is Adam Russo, chairman and CEO of Edgewood Clinical Services.   • Eighth graders invited to apply for Select 58 Award

    The Education Foundation of Downers Grove District 58 invites all eighth graders attending Herrick and O’Neill middle schools to consider applying for a Select 58 Recognition Award. Select 58 annually recognizes students who exhibit outstanding service and citizenry to their school and community. 58 students – 29 from Herrick and 29 from O’Neill – will receive this honor. All students are eligible to apply for the honor, as long as they are passing their classes.

  • View Kindergarten Readiness Night presentation

    District 58 recently hosted a Kindergarten Readiness Night for parents of future kindergartners. Highland School Principal Dr. Judy Kmak shared tips on preparing children for success in kindergarten and beyond. Dr. Kmak explained the District’s kindergarten programming and expectations, as well as how the District aligns its kindergarten curriculum with Common Core standards.

  • Score great deals at Toy, Sport and Baby Equipment Resale on March 7

    Like a good deal that also helps your community? In the market for toys, sporting equipment or baby goods? Come to the 15th Annual Kingsley School PTA Toy, Sport and Baby Equipment Resale on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kingsley School, 6509 Powell St. The resale will offer a variety of gently-used toys, electronics, craft supplies, backpacks, sporting goods and baby equipment for low prices. A percentage of the proceeds will support the Kingsley PTA.

  • O’Neill wins $30,000 as Follett Challenge semi-finalist

    Follett has named O’Neill Middle School a semi-finalist in the Follett Challenge. O’Neill won $30,000 and the opportunity to compete for the grand prize: an additional $30,000! The award will fund academic goods and services, such as books and e-books, which will benefit all of Downers Grove Grade School District 58.

    District 58 hosted two PARCC parent information sessions on Feb. 18. The meetings explained how the District will administer the exam this March and gave parents the opportunity to try out some PARCC components using the computerized testing platform.     Downers Grove Grade School District 58 invites parents to attend a Kindergarten Readiness Night on Monday, Feb. 23 from 6-7 p.m. at Indian Trail School, 6235 Stonewall Ave. Parents of incoming District 58 kindergartners will also have the opportunity to visit their school, meet the principal and staff, and get their questions answered during the upcoming annual Kindergarten Roundups this March and April.
