This curriculum overview was developed to provide the community with a general understanding of the major curricular areas and give insight into the general instructional focus at each grade level. Below is the curriculum brochure. As you review this brochure, please keep in mind that it is only a “snapshot” of the grade level. The intent of this brochure is not to describe everything that will take place in every classroom over the course of the year, nor does it reflect how the curriculum is adjusted to meet individual student needs. The dynamics of classroom instruction are such that they are not reflected in this document, and teaching and learning do not happen in a prescribed or fixed order as may be inferred from in this overview.
Teachers strive to help students make connections across curricular areas to add meaning for the individual child, so subject matter is often presented in an integrated manner. Much of the curriculum is designed to spiral across the grade levels, increasing in complexity and level of mastery over time, thus similar topics will be encountered at various grade levels. We hope you find this document helpful and we encourage you to address questions to your child’s classroom teacher.
