Stealing

Trust or the loss of trust within the parent child relationship is a topic that is brought to our attention often. Trust is something that takes a great deal of time to build and can be lost in an instant. Stealing either from a parent or from a store is a breach of trust between parent and child. When talking with students we often ask the question what does the loss of trust cost them? I ask the parent the same question , how does not being able to trust their son or daughter affect their relationship with their child? . During early adolescence trust becomes even more significant as adolescents struggle for independence from their parents and families. It becomes important that parent and child plan a way for the trust to be rebuilt. It is important for the adolescent to realize that I am sorry does not rebuild trust. Only time can re-establish trust between parent and child. The parent is the role model for developing a trusting relationship.
